This year, we are excited to announce our KIDS CLUB, which aims to provide children and families an opportunity to participate in creative activities that help them not only learn more about French culture and traditions, but Guyanese art forms as well. We offer unique kids workshops and activities on Saturdays for children in Georgetown, Guyana.

About our animator!

Jovanka Williams

Jovanka Williams, an accomplished steelpan virtuoso, began her musical journey at
the tender age of 6 when she picked up her first pair of mallets at church in Trinidad
and Tobago, then furthered skill building at St. Gabriel’s Primary School. Over two
decades, she has achieved impressive success, winning five senior solo, seven duet,
and six jazz titles with The Kunjaz Steel Ensemble, solidifying her status as a master of
the instrument.
Jovanka’s exceptional talent has been recognized with prestigious awards, such as
the National School of Music award for being the Most Musically-inclined student
and the National Youth Award of Excellence for Outstanding Accomplishments in
Music. Equipped with a Diploma in Marketing and a Degree in Business Management
from the University of Guyana, she has also significantly contributed to education,
teaching at North Georgetown Primary School and The Bishops’ High School.
Balancing her responsibilities as a devoted mother to her energetic 5-year-old and
the band manager of Kunjaz Steel Ensemble, Jovanka’s musical prowess has taken
her worldwide. With a wealth of experience, she also served as a judge in various
competitions and has now ventured into artist management under her label, The
Kunjaz Group.

Indian Rangoli Workshop

Individual Child (4+ years): 2000 GYD – Parent/Child: 3500 GYD
Location: will be disclosed in a confirmation email

Rangoli means “an array of colors” in Sanskrit. It is a traditional Indian art form which involves drawing patterns on the ground with rice powder that has been dyed with bright colors. This is usually practiced during festivals like the most recent celebration of Diwali in Georgetown. Indo-Guyanese, is the largest ethnic group in Guyana, making up around 40% of the population. So if you missed the celebration on October 30th, join us for this fun tradition and discover a new way to enjoy colors. You can also learn a few words in French! *Children from 4-6 years old have to accompanied by a parent. Location will be shared in email confirmation.

StoryTime in French

The Alliance Francaise is now participating in the StoryTime program at the National Library, part of a national campaign to improve child literacy. This session is open to the Guyanese public. Come join us for an immersive storytelling session in French, which will also be read out in English. A great way for kids get acquainted with the French language. The reading will be followed by an arts and crafts activity!

Handmade Christmas Ornament

In case you haven’t noticed, Christmas starts early in Guyana. Come and make your own handmade personalized ornament that you will be proud to put up on your tree this year! You will also learn about some fun French Christmas traditions.

String Art Workshop

Cost: Individual Child 2500 GYD – Parent/Child: 4500
Max 10 children/ Age 7+

String art involves taking a wooden board, positioning nails on it, and wrapping string around them to construct an artistic design. It was popularized by Mary Everest Boole as a way to teach Maths concepts to children. The curves Mary Everest Boole used in her teaching methods became known as the Bèzier curve, inspired by the work from French mathematician, Pierre Bézier! Come learn how to draw a Guyanese parrot using only colored string and nails.
